Leadership Meet our founders

Leonard (Len) S. Schleifer, M.D., Ph.D., Co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer: As we look back on to 2022, we had a lot to do at Regeneron. And I think you can highlight three very important tasks that needed to be accomplished, and that were accomplished. First of all, in our franchise where we treat blinding retinal diseases, we have the leading drug in that space.

Marion McCourt, Executive Vice President, Commercial: We see EYLEA® in the marketplace after many years of successful performance, probably having its most successful year ever in 2022, not only in terms of total dollar sales, but also in terms of growth of product versus the prior year at over 8%, which is really remarkable for a product that's coming at 11 years in the market.

Len: We’d like to have a successful launch, assuming we can get approval, of our high dose, our 8mg aflibercept. That’s very important. I think that’s going to make a difference to patients. The second task that was really important for us was to make sure that we continue to deliver to patients with type two allergic inflammation.

Marion: I’ll take a step further and talk about Dupixent®, where in 2022 we're now helping hundreds of thousands of patients on a worldwide basis. Potentially we'll have the opportunity, if clinical trials are positive and if we secure an FDA approval and other worldwide approvals, the ability to launch Dupixent for COPD.

Len: Our third strategic imperative for 2022 was dealing with our cancer franchise. We knew that immuno-oncology was a very competitive space, but we thought we had a unique Regeneron research-based approach to treating cancer, to harnessing a patient's own immune system to fight their cancers.

George D. Yancopoulos, M.D., Ph.D., Co-founder, President and Chief Scientific Officer: To finally show that our dreams of maybe becoming a major player in the immuno-oncology space. Getting to that point, where now, some are viewing us as leaders in the world of now coming up with novel combinations to add - to turn - what previously were called cold tumors, because they didn't respond to immunotherapies, into tumors that were hot and highly responsive. I think among the many advantages we have at Regeneron is that from the beginning, we based so much of what we did on what we thought were the hardest truths that we could identify in science.

Len: After all, Regeneron is kind of unique that all our products have come from our own research labs.

George: It’s the same thing with our approaches in genetics medicines. These are in their early days, they’re already showing such incredible promise. We have, for the first time in history, changed and eliminated a pathological gene, using a CRISPR-based approach in living human beings. That’s never been done before, but that’s just the beginning of our genetics medicine approaches.

Marion: This entrepreneurial spirit of the Regeneron organization, the pride we take in what we do and how we do it - always doing the right thing in making sure that individuals are recognized, and teams are recognized, for the great work that they do.

Len: We've always said at Regeneron we wanted to do well by doing good, and I think we have continued to do that. We do that not only by bringing these new products to patients in need, but we're mindful of how we’re going to stimulate the next generation of people who can do this.

George: Let's work together to just keep pushing the envelope, pushing that edge further and further forward, changing the practice of medicine to just bring the Regeneron Way forward in such a way that we can help more and more people who need it.
