Regeneron in the Community:
A Legacy of Service
In Tarrytown, we care about others, we’re motivated to help, and we have the manpower to make a difference in a number of local organizations.
We bring the compassion, dedication and energy of over 1,400 of the brightest scientists and professionals who truly thrive on volunteering in their local community. Our employees are proud to join with local schools and not-for-profit agencies in Westchester County to provide hands-on help to a number of local initiatives, including:
ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING BRINGS SCIENCE TO LIFE
Navigating the world of research and development may be daunting to an innovator — particularly one who’s still pursuing their education. To help guide them through the process, and expose them to the world of biotechnology, Regeneron professionals mentor and provide internship opportunities to a number of local students each year.
PROMOTING BIOTECH CAREERS TO COLLEGE STUDENTS
It’s difficult to get excited about a future career when you don’t understand what it’s all about. To that end, Regeneron employees in Tarrytown are partnering with higher academic institutions like Columbia University to increase college students’ awareness and interest in the biotech industry.
ENGAGING INTEREST WITH HANDS-ON SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS
What better way to encourage kids to love science than through hands-on activities? Regeneron scientists provide hands-on science education and encouragement to local kids under make-shift lab-tents where children can explore the wonders of science, see tricks our brains play on us, separate out the DNA of a strawberry, make GAK from glue, borax and water, and learn all about antibodies. After trying on lab coats, safety goggles, and gloves, and experiencing the wonder of discovery, they’ve had a glimpse into the life of a scientist that may spark a new interest they never knew existed.
REGIONAL FOOD AND CLOTHING DRIVES
Regeneron departments sponsor over 75 local families in need, providing baskets filled with food for a family Thanksgiving feast. They also sort and re-pack thousands of pounds of nonperishable foods each year so the local food bank can transport the food to local food kitchens that distribute to those in need. In addition, Regeneron employees gather to help sort, count and pack donated pajamas and books for children living in Westchester shelters and collect donations to purchase winter coats, shoes, and warm clothing and food to hand out during a “midnight run” to visit homeless people living on the streets of New York City.
CUPCAKES FOR A CAUSE
One of Regeneron’s more tasteful events is the annual Cupcakes for a Cause bake sale to raise funds for CancerCare for Kids. Regeneron employees bake the items, sell them around the facility, and encourage employees to buy more to take home to families and friends in the community. This year’s event exceeded last year’s earnings by 100 percent.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL CLOTHES FOR KIDS
What’s the best way to help a child or teen begin school feeling more confident and self-assured? Providing them with new clothes, shoes and supplies for their first day of school. In August, Regeneron employees and departments rallied together to collect enough cash to provide new clothes and school supplies for the 16 teens and 43 younger kids from the Westhab Shelter in the Town of Greenburgh.
