Aflibercept concentrate

Regeneron, in a global collaboration with Sanofi, an industry leader in the field of oncology, has evaluated aflibercept, also known as ZALTRAP® (aflibercept) concentrate, and VEGF Trap, in combination with common chemotherapy regimens in several types of cancer.

Aflibercept is a fusion protein designed by Regeneron scientists to bind two forms of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (called VEGF-A and VEGF-B). VEGF is a protein required for the formation of healthy new blood vessels. However, abnormal levels of VEGF have been shown to contribute to the growth of blood vessels that provide oxygen and nutrients to tumors. In addition, in preclinical studies, aflibercept has been shown to bind another vascular growth factor called Placental Growth Factor (PLGF), which, while less understood, has also been implicated in the supply of blood to tumors.

Development Phase: BLA submitted for previously treated metastatic colorectal cancer; Phase 3 study in progress in first-line hormone-resistant metastatic prostate cancer.

This section discusses pipeline drug candidates currently undergoing clinical testing in a variety of diseases. The safety and efficacy of these drug candidates have not been evaluated by any regulatory authorities for the indications described in this section.
